There are two common hitch types available on the market: the weight distributing (WD) and the weight carrying (WC). The weight distributing type of hitch consists of two spring bars connected to heavier trailers that can weigh for up to 10,000 lbs. The weight carrying hitch, on the other hand, can only be used on a maximum trailer weight of 3000 lbs.

You will rarely encounter hitch component failure. However, you need to ensure that the safety chains and the breakaway switch are in perfect working condition to guarantee safe towing. To provide a more solid support, the hitch should be as close to the rear tire as possible. Do not take these things for granted. Even though your stock hitch is highly durable, improper use and abuse would definitely shorten its service life.
